Health and safety

The company subscribes to a comprehensive policy on health and safety. As an employer, within the definition of the Mine Health and Safety Act, it has ensured that all personnel engaged in the current mining operation have undergone comprehensive medical examinations and a report has been submitted to the Department of Minerals and Energy (DME). Medical surveillance of the employees will continue and appropriate steps will be taken to address employees found to be afflicted with any form of medical impairment or injury arising from or related to the mining operation, or other ailments in terms of Keaton Energy’s Health and Safety Policy (PDF - 157KB).

The company is in the pleasing position that, to 31 March 2009, there have been no incidences of lost time injuries or fatalities. Notwithstanding this, adequate training in matters related to health and safety is provided to all employees and vigilance in respect of safety performance will continue. Plans are also in place to ensure that adequate education and care is provided to employees in respect of HIV and AIDS.
